This was such a cozy read<\/strong>! The small town, nursing home setting<\/strong>, and the inclusion of Newfoundland slang<\/strong> really amp up the charm in this story. The setting is a huge part of this story, and that’s reflected on every page, from the descriptions to the sense of community throughout. The author makes good use of Salma, a newcomer, to show us what Benny’s small Newfoundland town is like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This story also shines because Benny and Salma are great main characters<\/strong> who are easy to root for as they untangle the mystery of the burglaries and deal with bullies at school, while learning about each other’s past and cultures. With Benny, I loved learning a bit about Mosaic Down Syndrome<\/strong> without feeling like I was receiving an info dump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salma isn’t Benny’s only friend. He shares a heartwarming intergenerational friendship<\/strong> with one of the home’s residents, which helps him to cope with not having his dad there. Finally, this story has a truly compelling mystery<\/strong> that quickly evolves into a believable conspiracy with villains who are just the right amount of scary.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
