Summary: Silent Sister
When two sisters camp in the woods for their class sleepover and only one comes out alive with no memory of what happened to her sister, all eyes are on her. It doesn’t help that her friends are suddenly acting weird toward her, and no one seems trustworthy. As law enforcement investigates and the surviving sister digs through her memories for the truth, the reveal is shocking.
The Good
This book is absolutely engrossing on audio! Maddy and Grace are two Irish Twin sisters who look very similar but have personalities like night and day. While Grace is outgoing and strikes up friendships with ease, Maddy is reticent and clings to her singular best friend. The author really brings the girls’ differences to the fore, and we see how that affects the outcome of their field trip.
There’s plenty of mystery and tension in this story, too. In addition to the central mystery of what happened to the girls and why one girl is still missing, other smaller mysteries about the sisters’ past and their relationship with each other and with their schoolmates come to the fore in a way that will make readers question everyone’s motives.
At its heart, however, this is a story about family and sisterhood, so both of those themes play a pivotal role as the story is told from both Maddy and Grace’s perspectives in alternating past and present timelines. Readers will watch the sisters’ relationship unravel as they piece together the events of that night.
