Amazon Kids+ is a pretty meh platform. I hate that there’s no browsable catalog to know exactly which books are available. You can only search on your Kindle if you have an Amazon Kids+ account. I’ve done the hard work for you and found several great options (including some I’ve read and many I haven’t) for ages 6-8. Some of these are traditional chapter books (super short chapters under 150 pages) while others are young middle grade books that will work for readers ages 7-9.

This popular young graphic novel about a girl and the unicorn she creates to be her best friend is great for kids ages 6 and up who enjoy fantastical stories and the graphic novel format. I’d say this is more a young middle grade book (over 200 pages long) than a traditional chapter book, but many younger kids also enjoy it, especially if they’re strong readers.

This Branches series is an animal-centric mystery that is so much fun to read. I would’ve gobbled these up when I was younger, and I think kids will enjoy seeing Hilde solve mysteries. There are lovely black-and-white illustrations and a Reporter’s Toolbox section that explains mystery vocabulary so kids can follow along easily. Ages 7+

In this series, Abby and her little brother Jonah discover a magical mirror in the basement of their new home in Smithville. They discover that the mirror can transport them into fairytales, but their arrival usually alters the original story. Eventually, Abby and Jonah realize that their interference might actually mean a happier ending for the characters in each story. Whatever After was originally published in 2013 and consists of 17 books and three Super editions, with more on the way in 2025! The storylines provide a unique spin on the classic stories, and Abby and Jonah are funny, likable characters. Ages 7+

In this adorable chapter book series, kids meet a cute owl named Eva! One day when she’s bored, she comes up with a grand idea to organize a spring festival. Game Over, Super Rabbit Boy! (Press Start! #1)
